Ok, politics again...

I'll try and keep this short.

Clinton and McCain both agree that a tax holiday on fuel is a great idea.  A wonderful way to help out the average schmuck and beat their chests about "DOING SOMETHING!"

Feh!

It's bull puckey politics, grandstanding and nothing more.

It's also hypocrisy in action as both knotheads are on record as supporting 80% carbon reduction by 2050.  How the hell lowering gas prices is going to do anything but by them some votes with other people's money is beyond me.

Don't be fooled.  This is a bad, very bad idea.

Thank you.

Haha. Everyone has opinions, right?

You disagree with my opinion?

I came at this from a logical standpoint. Getting rid of the tax would raise demand, which would lead to an even tighter supply, which would raise prices even more, with the tax being tacked back on...oy!

Plus, the Oil Companies would be the ones getting the windfall, not Joe Schmoe or whoever.

No, this is political pandering at its lowest. Don't be fooled...

Oh, I am certainly not fooled.

And, I am not sure about your opinion. Heck, I'm not sure about MY opinion! I'm not an American citizen, and don't really have a right to an opinion. But you could be right, you're very wise, and you ARE an American citizen. But, I'm still not sure. I don't live in the country, so it's not my problem. But I think that you could be very right. After all, you have lived in the USA for your intire life!

As for me? I've only visited. =)

I have lived here my whole life. Except when the aliens took me for a while....lol!

Haha! You're a crack up Mark! Funny, funny bloke...

Ok, here's one.

Who do YOU want to win the presidential election? Just thought I'd ask...;)

The Icon says it all...

(Hint: It ain't Hilary and it ain't McCain)

Alright. Obama? Really? *sighs*

Alright then. Then I don't agree with your opinion...that said it all. Haha. I'm sorry though.

McCain creeps me out because he's so short, and his hands are so tiny (that's always creepy on a man), even though he can't help that.

Hillary? She just needs to loosen up a bit, and become a bit more mellow. But, other than that, I like her.

Obama? He didn't put his hand over his heart when someone was singing the national anthem. That's a bit odd. Don't you think? He was born and raise in the US, he should do that. And, I don't know, he gives me the heebie-jeebies too...it's his eyes and lips.

But I am so sorry to say my opinion. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings Mark, I was just giving my opinion. But mine doesn't matter.

You are more than entitled to your own opinion, Lilly. You're not hurting my feelings any.

I just think Hilary cares about Hilary and not so much for the country. And I think in this instance, she has shown that she's not ready to lead the country. This gas tax holiday is ill-conceived and poorly thought out. It's hypocritical on the parts of both of them.

Just my tuppence...

Ok. Well, that's good that no feelings got wounded. Just making sure.

And, thank you for saying that I am entitled to my own opinion...even though I don't feel the same way. I just feel like if I share my opinion, people will be like: "What the heck are you doing?! You don't have a say in the AMERICAN election!" I just fear that. You know?

That would be the view expressed by a small minded person. Pay them no mind...

Thank you Mark. You really do always know what to say. And you are very, very wise. Props to that, my good mate. =)

I dunno so much that I'm wise...just lived a bit...

Well, you have wisley lived a bit. Eh? =D

It is the most depressing election year I have ever lived through. The level of hypocrisy and the lack of any real substance... McCain? McCain?!!? And Hilary is strictly there (running and in her Senate seat) because of name recognition. She has absolutely nothing to offer.

Obama may not win in this racist country (You want to deny it? Bring it!) but he will have my vote.

Oh, I don't deny the rampant racism in this country.

Feh? Schmuck? Oy? Schmoe?

Have you been eating lox or something?

Nu?

We lived for a couple of years as one of the few Gentile families in a very Jewish Neighborhood. I picked up a lot of expressions there, and over the years.

Yiddish is a wonderfully expressive language.

And a bagel and schmear sounds yummy right about now...

Tax holiday on fuel - cost to taxes used to maintain infrastructure (remember the bridge that fell down) = 10 Billion

Savings over entire summer to average consumer = 35 dollars.

I am willing to forgo my 35 bucks to keeps the roads up. We are going to need them until we rebuild the rail net and try for mass transit. Also gas needs to be high enough to fuel both demand and research in nonpolluting transportation. If it will sell someone will make it.

Your points are well stated. I was just disgusted when I read the stories about those two idiots and their championing of this moronic idea...

How about a tax break for people who ride scooters or motorcycles under 1000cc's? They get much better mileage...and there is a more viable reward system involved. It would require people to actually make a choice to qualify.

(For the record, the Boulevard would qualify whilst the Gold Wing would not...)

That would be a start toward real legislation that provided incentives for fuel savings. There are other plans that work on the same principal. People, including sadly myself, will not make major life chances until they see a benefit.

Last year, I really noticed a change in the monthly fuel bill when I rode many places that I would have usually driven. I look forward to the time when I can ride most every day and spend less than $20 a week as opposed to $45 or more just on fuel...

My brother-in-law bought a scooter to get to and from work, all to save gas money. I've been seeing a few more scooters around town as well. While U.S. fuel consumption has gone down these past few months, fuel consumption around the world has gone up...
